Safety and pool security are paramount for pool owners this summer! When considering the type and design of your new pool fencing, it is important for pool owners to take into account government and local council laws and regulations, especially with regards to pool security.
Child safety around your pool is of primary concern, and for this reason Aqua Vista Glass recommends that you contact your relevant local council to make sure you understand your responsibilities as a pool owner and seek advice on improving your pool security.
Improving Your Pool Security
One of the benefits of choosing a glass pool fence over other types of pool fencing is the security glass fence panels offer. Glass fencing is extremely tough and is difficult to climb, vastly improving pool security. Unlike aluminium fence panels, glass panels don’t have “gaps” between palings so there’s nothing for little legs and arms to scale.
As a pool owner you are responsible not just for the installation of an appropriate pool fence, but also for the ongoing maintenance and security of your pool fence. For this reason it is vital to choose a high quality pool-fencing product and to ensure that experienced pool fence professionals complete the installation.
Different regulations apply to pool fences depending on when the pool was built. Copies of these regulations can be downloaded from the Queensland government’s website.
If you are not sure when your pool was installed, your local council may have a record. Plans were most likely submitted to council when your swimming pool was first built. For information on conforming with pool security fencing laws in Brisbane and around Queensland, please visit the Queensland government website.
Safety Pool Fence Certification
If your swimming pool is new, then a building certifier who approved the construction application must inspect and certify your pool fence before the pool is filled. A suitable building certifier can be a private building certifier or a council building certifier and it is their responsibility to sign off on your pool security. If you are building a new fence for an existing swimming pool that was originally approved by local council, then the new fence must be inspected and certified by the local council.
